AN ATTEMPT TO DETERMINE THE FACTORS WHICH INFLUENCE THE OPINIONS OF EU INHABITANTS ON THE INTRODUCTION OF THE EURO
Abstract
In the paper, in which panel logit models with fixed effects were applied, it was shown that in 2003-2006 opinion on the introduction of the euro within the euro zone depended not only on the socio-economic situation of particular states as estimated by their economic growth and unemployment rates, but also on the specific attitude of inhabitants of these states to this event. The most negative attitude towards the new European currency was noted among the inhabitants of Greece, whereas the most positive was found among the people of Belgium.
